What is Sesame Seed?
Sesame seeds are small, oil-rich seeds collected from the sesame plant. These seeds can be brown, black, or white and are high in nutrients.
After harvesting, the seeds are thoroughly cleaned to remove impurities. They are then dried and sometimes roasted to enhance their nutty flavor and extend their shelf life.
Sesame seeds are used in breads, sweets, sauces, and oils. Because they are rich in calcium, protein, healthy fats, and antioxidants, they are incredibly nutritious and versatile.
How is Sesame Seed cultivated?
Sesame seeds are planted in loamy or sandy soil that do not hold water. It grows well in warm weather with good sunrays and moderate rainfall.
To prepare the soil and keep fields weed-free, farmers apply organic compost. Sesame plants need enough watering during blooming and pod formation for high seed yield and quality.
Harvesting can start when the seed pods turn yellow and start to dry. After being cut, the plants are bundled and allowed to dry in the sun. When the pods split open, the sesame seeds are freed for collection.
