What is Turmeric?
Turmeric is a bright yellow spice that comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. Turmeric has long been used in medicine and cookery because of its strong therapeutic properties. Turmeric gives foods a beautiful color and antibacterial qualities.
This spice has a warm, earthy, and faintly bitter flavor. It adds color and flavor to curries, soups, drinks, and other foods. Turmeric is another natural dye that gives garments and food a golden tint.
How is Turmeric cultivated?
Turmeric comes from rhizomes. Sections of the rhizome are sown initially. It is then placed on a loose soil bed, covered with soil, and planted in rows. It requires warm weather and a lot of rain. The crop is usually planted at the beginning of the monsoon season.
To keep the plants safe, healthy, and able to retain moisture, regular weeding and mulching are also required. These rhizomes take more than a year to fully develop.
