What is Hemp Seed?
Hemp seed is produced from the hemp plant which is a variety of Cannabis sativa. Unlike marijuana, hemp seeds do not contain any psychoactive ingredients. They are only grown, gathered, and processed for human consumption.
These seeds are high in fiber, protein, vital minerals, and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. They support heart health, digestion, skin health, and immunity. Hemp seeds can be crushed, roasted, or consumed raw.
Hemp seeds are planted in soil that gets enough sunlight and has good water drainage. The plants are harvested once the seeds are ready. After harvest, seeds are cleaned, dried, and stored for later use.
How is Hemp Seed cultivated?
Hemp seeds grow best in soil that is healthy, well-drained, and receives adequate sunlight. The crop becomes ready for harvesting after 90 to 120 days of planting.
This plant requires regular watering and weed control. Hemp grows to a high height and has sturdy stems. Seeds begin to form inside seed heads for harvesting when the flowers are suitably ripe.
Harvesting begins when the seed heads become brown. After harvesting the plants, farmers thresh and remove the seed heads. Seeds are used to make oil, powders, and snacks after being washed and preserved.
