What is Amla (Indian Gooseberry)?
Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry and Amlaki, is a little green coloured fruit with a sour taste. This is also called Amrit Phal for its superb health benefits. Ayurveda has used it for its therapeutic qualities for thousands of years.
The fruit is rich in calcium, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Amla’s powerful components improve digestion, strengthen immunity, give glowy skin, and naturally stimulate hair growth.
Amla can be eaten raw, dried, or the juice of it. It is also a part of many traditional herbal treatments, pickles, powders, and health tonics.
How is Amla (Indian Gooseberry) cultivated?
Amla grows best in tropical and subtropical climates. It grows best in loose soil that does not hold water. In India, it is a common tree. The plantation starts with the seeds or seedlings during the monsoon season.
The trees require plenty of sunlight and proper irrigation. Timely pruning is also needed to promote optimal production.
The fruits become ready to be picked when they are light green in colour and firm. They are carefully picked, cleaned, and processed for further use.
